The File is one of six selectable tools that Henry can choose from in the first choice menu of Escaping the Prison. It arrives in a cake along with the other five objects and is one of only three objects that are successful for Henry, provided that it is used properly. Using the Cell Door option after being chosen results in a success.

When the file is chosen, Henry is considered whether to use the file on the cell door or the window. If he uses it on the door, he sees off a piece of the door pole which he uses to knock out the guards Rupert Price and Dave Panpa that try to stop him. This starts the "Sneaky Escapist" pathway.
Window[]
If the window is chosen, Henry will use the file on the poles on the window and jump out. However, his cell is located higher up in the building and he ends up falling to his death. This result in a fail.

- Although he dies from the height of the fall if used in the window, Henry survives from the height in the parachute fail, which is even higher than the height from the window.
- However, Henry soon also dies from the heavy items that hit him in the head.
- As mentioned in the 1st Developer Commentary, Puffballs says that he always uses the Window option of the file option to test fail screens on.
