Somewhere in a far off land, where the snowy mountains meet the sea, lies a prison complex. Welcome to The Wall, the 'home' of some of the baddest and smartest criminals from all over the world. Henry has become the newest resident.

Fleeing the Complex in the fifth game in the Henry Stickmin series. It is the direct sequel to Infiltrating the Airship, and is named as Episode 4 of The Henry Stickmin Collection.

Fleeing the Complex is set in snowy mountains, where The Wall is located and Henry Stickmin is imprisoned. The complex holds the 'world's most cunning and notorious criminals', as said by Dmitri Johannes Petrov in the intro of the game, and after that Henry was forced unconscious and sent to a transfer cell. It was confirmed it is located in Canada.

Plot

At The Wall, a heavily-secured incarceration complex located in Canada, the Warden, Dmitri Johannes Petrov, and his second-in-command Grigori Olyat, find a lengthy criminal record in their files belonging to Henry Stickmin. Deeming him to be dangerous enough for incarceration at The Wall, the two decide to move in to kidnap Henry.

Henry wakes up at the complex where he finds Dmitri "welcoming" Henry to his new home. Dmitri states that only the most notorious criminals are held there. Dmitri taunts Henry by informing him that he would remain at The Wall for a long time, before ordering Grigori to take him and send Henry to a transfer cell.

Grigori escorts Henry to the Transfer Cell, ordering him to stay put before guarding the door of the room. In the Transfer Cell, a woman by the name of Ellie Rose is also awaiting a transfer to her cell. With Grigori turned toward the hallway, Henry can plan his means of escape:

  • Boost Up: Locating a hatch on the ceiling, Henry is able to have Ellie boost him up to reach the hatch, and into a vent. He can decide to either continue his escape alone or bring Ellie along with him.
  • Charge Tackle: Henry tackles Grigori and makes a run for the end of the hallway, in an attempt to bust out of The Wall.
  • Wait for Transfer: Henry is transferred to his new cell, but he can find and use tools which can allow him to escape. Using a Wall guard's cellphone, he is able to contact an ally of a faction.
  • [X] Play Dead: Henry pretends to have died in the transfer cell. Grigori falls for the act, notifying Dmitri about Henry's supposed demise. Unbeknownst to Henry, all dead inmates are tossed into the trash chute and out for the ocean-- as such, Dmitri orders Grigori to throw Henry into the ocean and out of The Wall. (Message: Pretty convincing there.)

New Features

A new feature called Map is included in the game, making the navigation through fails easier and allowing the player to instantly revisit any choice screen from any of the 5 endings in the game. It is a replacement for the Step Back feature.

The game also introduces a timer for the Quick Time Events, indicating how long there is to select an item. Additionally, not all options are available at the start of the time-limited decisions, with some only selectable near the end of the countdown (ex. the final QTE in Presumed Dead ending).

Both of these features were retroactively added to the previous games for The Henry Stickmin Collection.

Development

In late 2014, PuffballsUnited revealed initials for the game (FtC) on his Twitter. In January 2015, a full title along with the opening scene was shown. In March, Puffballs revealed a summer release is a possible release date, but it was pushed to middle fall (November).

A sneak peek of the fail screen for Sonic Pulse was revealed on Puffballs' Newgrounds page in June. Another ending sneak peek along with status report was shown in October. The official teaser trailer, along with the release date (November 12th 2015) was revealed on November 5th.

Trivia

  • In the Button choice, the guards are going to the cafeteria for lunch. However, the events of the game take place at nighttime.
  • PuffballsUnited originally was going to have FtC be set in a jungle, but he didn't feel like drawing so many trees. (Source: Marcus' twitter)
  • PuffballsUnited created the concepts for this game even before Infiltrating the Airship.
  • PuffballsUnited in his interview stated that the game originally was going to take place in european old timey kingdom
  • Technically, Henry can still escape the Complex after choosing The KNEE. The reason it's considered a fail is either that Ellie is considered Henry's true companion and Henry feels a need to keep her alive, or that Henry might be caught by Dmitri while trying to escape and Ellie won't be alive to help him. Henry would also be right at the location where Grigori was when he got hit by the car.
  • It is found out that no one that works in The Wall cares about people that are dead or people that are sick. Example:
    • Play Dead: Henry pretends to have died in the transfer cell and Grigori falls for it. Unfortunately, all dead inmates are tossed into the ocean. Henry technically escaped when thrown since the ocean is outside The Wall. However, he is most likely dead as he died in The Betrayed
    • Fake illness: Henry coughs to get the guards attention and is promptly tranquilized and sent to a quarantine cell with other sick inmates.
  • In the remastered version, the new music in Convict Allies is reused for the Capital Gains ending in Completing the Mission.
  • In the trailer of the legacy version, there seems breaking the fourth wall by saying something related to all the endings in the previous episode.
  • Fleeing the Complex is the only game in the Henry Stickmin series in which Dave Panpa does not appear. (This is not counting the remastered version of Breaking the Bank in the Collection, in which the prison scene with Dave from the original version was removed)
