G.A.B.E.N.

The G.A.B.E.N is a very large weapon of some kind from the Center for Chaos Containment.

It appears in the final choice screen of the "Pure Blooded Thief" pathway of Infiltrating the Airship as one of the four possible choices. Its appearance resembles, in part, a grey elliptical object.

When chosen, Wilson Stone inserts the corresponding disk into a computer and begins the start-up sequence for the G.A.B.E.N. The computer encounters an error but somehow recovers the disk. As the G.A.B.E.N. is just about to reveal itself, Infiltrating the Airship “crashes”, leading to a fail.

This option is a reference to Gabe Newell ("Gabe N."), the CEO of Valve Software who developed the Half-Life franchise. The installment Half-Life 3 has infamously been delayed, cancelled, and restarted multiple times since 2007 due to problems with the Source 2 Engine. Valve would not update the franchise for 13 years until Half Life: ALYX (a prequel of Half-Life 2) was released.
- The weapon linked to this choice is heavily hinted as an early, incomplete iteration of the fully functional G.A.B.E.G.G. featured in CtM. This implies that its protocols were completed before the events of ItA but since it cannot carry them out, they do nothing and the computer returns an error for the null commands.
The error itself sometimes appears in Half-Life and Half-Life 2 but without HL3 folder and G.A.B.E.N.dll.
This disc contains illegible markings as opposed to all others.
This is one of three fail options to ”Glitch Out” the fail screen. The other two are the Goodball and the CorrupTick.
- Of the three, this one has the least effect on the screen, only causing it to stutter briefly when it appears.
- When the fail screen appears, the glass breaking sound freezes for a few seconds as well as the screen before resuming and completely stops.
The fail message is a reference to Microsoft Windows paths and the .dll extension.
This is one of the few FAIL options where Henry Stickmin himself does not appear.
This is the only Infiltrating the Airship fail to have a diffrent font.
