Yeah! It'll be like the old times.
Charles Calvin

International Rescue Operative is one of the endings in Fleeing the Complex.

After being captured by Dmitri Johannes Petrov in The Wall, Henry Stickmin intends to escape the Complex. After transferring to his cell and escaping from it, Henry calls the Government, and asks Charles Calvin for help in escaping The Wall.

This ending is set after either "Government Supported Private Investigator" or "Relentless Bounty Hunter" in which Henry is still on good terms with the Government and succeeded the mission to arrest Reginald Copperbottom or the Airship Division of the Toppat Clan.

Plot

Henry decides to Wait for Transfer. Ellie is first removed from the holding cell, before Henry is pushed into his own cell. In the cell, Henry begins to plot his escape.

  • [X] Teleporter - Using the device, Henry transports himself out of the cell, but onto a moon somewhere. There, he witnesses some Protoss Zealots attempt to wage battle with a Colossus, but they are killed in one fell swoop. A player, Bassen, tells the other team to leave. (Message: gg no re)
  • [X] Sonic Pulse - The device goes off and emits an extremely high-frequency noise, which blows Henry's head out. (Message: That hurt my ears! >:C )
  • [X] Fake Illness - Henry begins to cough, in an attempt to get himself into the medical ward. Grigori tranquilizes Henry and instead has him transferred to a quarantine cell, where Henry encounters Ray Rudolpho and a myriad of other inmates with strange illnesses. Realizing his mistake, Henry pounds on the door of the cell. (Message: What, you don't like your new friends?)
  • [X] Cookie - Henry consumes the cookie, which causes his body to enlarge. His foot breaks through part of his cell, but since he's too big, he can't progress any further. (Message: How curious.)
  • Laser Plane - A drone cuts into the floor around Henry, causing it to fall and crush a Wall staff member below.

The crushed guard had a phone, and Henry uses it to Phone a Friend for help. From here the game branches off towards two different endings.[1]

It takes Charles one hour to reach the complex. Once he gets close, he contacts Henry, telling him that he should get outside to meet him. Henry tries to sneak outside through the cafeteria, but is spotted by Willie Wagner, alerting the other guards to his presence.

  • [X] Bubble Shield: Henry summons a bubble shield as a protection against the bullets, but since the shield is not mobile, Henry is stuck there, surrounded by the guards. Message: Perfect! Now you won't get hurt.Kappa Icon
  • [X] Earthbend: Summoning his bending abilities, Henry starts a fight with the guards. However, one of them, Kado Ito, is also an Earthbender and pelts Henry with stones. Henry punches two rocks, but he is knocked out by the third rock, and the "WASTED" text from GTA5 appears. Message: You were doing so well!
  • Flash: Henry teleports out, leaving the guards puzzled.

Reappearing on the stairs outside of the complex, Henry continues his escape. Charles arrives at the Wall and sees Henry outside. However a guard, Sten Villo, is nearby, and Charles offers assistance in taking him out.

  • [X] Snipe: Charles tries to shoot Sten with a Sniper Rifle, but kills Henry instead, much to Sten’s shock after which Charles abruptly realizes his mistake. Message: Friendly Fire: ON
  • [X] Charles: Charles rams his helicopter into Henry and Sten while singing a fanfare. Message: Not again! You should know better!
  • Mini Helicopter: Charles releases a remote-controlled miniature helicopter. It grabs and pulls Sten from the stairs, potentially killing him in the process.

Charles informs Henry about the helicopter landing pad on the roof but fears the guards will raise the alarm if he gets nearby. The moment Henry makes his way to the landing pad, the two guards, the latter wielding a rocket launcher, notice the helicopter and prepare to shoot it down, raising the alarm in the process.

  • [X] Leap Down: Henry jumps from the stairs, much to Charles’ confusion. Henry dies and Charles is shot down by Alex. Message: Report Charles, bad teammate.
  • [X] Tackle Kerdrew: Henry takes out Kerdrew, but Alex destroys the helicopter, robbing Henry of his ride. Message: There goes your ride.
  • [X] Run to the Helicopter: Henry ignores the guards and runs for the helicopter. He is gunned down by Kerdrew and the helicopter is shot down after Charles attempts to abandon the prison. Message: Well that went about as poorly as it could've.
  • Tackle Alex: Henry tackles Alex, saving Charles. Alex tells Kerdrew to shoot Henry, only for Charles to squash him with the helicopter.

Charles opens the door of the helicopter and signals to Henry, who intimidates Alex into submission on Charles' behalf. Boarding the helicopter, Henry departs from The Wall without any further interference, as an international rescue operative.

Aftermath

  • Assisted by Charles - Charles Calvin teams up with Henry once again and will play a role in both IRO endings.
  • Fled in Helicopter - Both IRO pathways begin with Henry in Charles' helicopter flying out to the Dogobogo Jungle for a mission.

International Rescue Operative can be combined with Government Supported Private Investigator to get Special BROvert Ops, and Relentless Bounty Hunter to get Master Bounty Hunter.

Trivia

Continuity

Charles says "This'll be just like the old times", acknowledging the events of Government Supported Private Investigator when they teamed up. He would go on to say this in almost every ending in Completing the Mission that incorporates GSPI. Adding to this, the Charles option is back from the last game, and once again results in Charles crashing his helicopter into something.
